Meta Ads Manager: How Shop Owners Can Watch Their Facebook Ads From a Phone

Meta Ads Manager is a free app from Meta (the company behind Facebook and Instagram) that lets you check, pause and adjust your ads right from your phone. If your shop runs Facebook or Instagram ads, install it so you know where your ad money goes each day. Building a proper new campaign is still a job for the computer.

In this post I'll keep it simple: what the app is, what it can and can't do, and which numbers deserve five minutes of your morning.

What is Meta Ads Manager, in plain words?

Think of running ads like paying someone to hand out flyers for your shop. You pay every day, but you have no idea how many flyers went out or whether anyone walked in because of them.

Meta Ads Manager is that person's daily report. Open the app and you see how much you spent today, how many people saw your ad, how many tapped it, and how many messaged or booked.

The basics:

  • •Price: free. You pay for the ads, not the app.
  • •Available on: iPhone (App Store) and Android (Google Play).
  • •Old name: Facebook Ads Manager. Same app, new name.
  • •Covers ads on: Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp.

One thing people mix up: Meta Business Suite is a different app. Business Suite is for posting and answering customer messages. Ads Manager does one job only: paid ads.

What can the app do for a shop owner?

Going by Meta's own App Store description, there are five main things:

  1. •See results in real time. Standing at the front desk, you can check how today's ads are doing.
  2. •Turn campaigns on and off. Fully booked for the weekend? Pause the ad in two seconds and stop paying for customers you can't take.
  3. •Get alerts. The app tells you when an ad is about to end, when you're close to your spending limit, or when something needs attention.
  4. •Compare two campaigns side by side. Say, "20% off gel sets" against "mani + pedi combo": which one brings customers for less?
  5. •Switch between Pages and ad accounts. Handy if you own more than one location.

You can also change budgets and dates, and build a simple ad from photos and videos already on your phone.

The 3 numbers that matter (ignore the rest)

The app shows a lot of numbers. Don't let that scare you. A shop owner needs three:

What the app calls itWhat it meansExample
Amount spentHow much you've paid Meta$284.95
ResultsHow many people did what you wanted: messaged, booked, bought139 purchases
Cost per resultWhat it cost to get one of those$2.05

The third one matters most. The math is easy: money spent divided by results. In the example above (taken from Meta's own sample screen): $284.95 ÷ 139 purchases ≈ $2.05 each.

It's like grocery shopping. You don't only ask "how much did I spend today?" You ask "how much per pound?" Cost per result is the per-pound price of your advertising.

What counts as cheap or expensive? It depends on your trade and what you sell. The easiest way to think about it: how much is a new customer worth to you? If a nail client spends about $60 a visit and tends to come back, paying $10–15 to win her is still a good deal. If it costs $50 to get one client, something needs fixing.

A 5-minute morning habit

You don't need to watch the app all day. Do these four steps over your morning coffee:

  • •Step 1: Open the app and look at what you spent yesterday. Does it match the budget you set?
  • •Step 2: Check the cost per result on each ad. Which is cheap, which is pricey?
  • •Step 3: If one ad has cost twice as much as the others for 3–4 days in a row, turn it off.
  • •Step 4: If an ad is doing well, leave it alone.

Step 4 sounds odd, but it matters. Every time you make big changes to an ad, Meta's system has to relearn who to show it to. It's like lifting the lid on a pot of phở every five minutes to re-season it. The broth never settles.

Two settings to switch on right away

1. Turn on notifications. Allow the app to send alerts. That way, if an ad gets rejected, your card fails, or a campaign is about to end, you hear about it today, not a week later.

2. Set an account spending limit. This is a ceiling for the whole ad account. Once you hit it, every ad stops by itself. Think of it as putting exactly $500 in the grocery envelope for the month. It's the simplest way to never get a nasty surprise because you forgot to pause something.

What is the app not good at?

Let me be straight so you don't expect too much. The phone app is great for keeping watch and making quick fixes. These jobs belong on a computer:

  • •Building a proper new campaign, especially when you need to choose your audience carefully (area, age, interests).
  • •Detailed reports, like whether your clicks come from Facebook or Instagram, or which age group books the most.
  • •Editing many ads at once or setting up automatic rules.

Here's how I picture it: the computer is your kitchen, where the cooking happens. The phone is your shop camera, letting you see everything from anywhere and react fast. Having a camera doesn't replace the kitchen.

So, should you install it?

  • •You're running ads (yourself or through someone): yes. Even with an agency handling things, you should be able to see how your own money is being spent. A trustworthy agency will always give you view access to your own ad account.
  • •You've only used the "Boost post" button: yes. Boosted posts show up in the app too, and you'll finally see what each one cost and what it brought in.
  • •You've never run an ad: no rush. Get the free basics right first (Google Maps, good photos, strong reviews), then think about ads.

Quick recap: what to do next

  1. •Download Meta Ads Manager (free) from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. •Sign in with the Facebook account that manages your shop's Page.
  3. •Turn on notifications and set a spending limit.
  4. •Spend five minutes each morning on three numbers: amount spent, results, cost per result.
  5. •For anything complicated, move to a computer or ask someone experienced.

If you open the app and the numbers make no sense, or you keep spending without seeing new customers, message Wizy. We offer a free 15-minute consultation and will look at whether your ad account is healthy or leaking money. You can also read about Wizy's Google & Facebook Ads service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Meta Ads Manager cost money?+

No. The Meta Ads Manager app is free on both iPhone and Android. You only pay for the ads you run on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger or WhatsApp, not for the app itself.

What's the difference between Meta Ads Manager and Meta Business Suite?+

Meta Business Suite is for posting, scheduling and answering customer messages. Meta Ads Manager is only for paid ads: checking results, pausing campaigns and changing budgets. If you run ads, it's worth having both.

Can I create Facebook ads from my phone?+

Yes. The app lets you build simple ads from photos and videos on your phone. For campaigns that need careful audience choices or detailed reports, use a computer, where the full toolset lives. The phone is best for monitoring and quick changes.

Which numbers should a shop owner look at in Meta Ads Manager?+

Three: amount spent, results (people who messaged, booked or bought) and cost per result. The third matters most. It's amount spent divided by results, and it tells you what one customer action costs you.

How do I avoid overspending on Facebook ads?+

Set an account spending limit. Once your total ad spend reaches it, all ads stop automatically. Pair that with notifications in the Meta Ads Manager app so you know when you're getting close.
